30% of the marks for the 'O' Level English Comprehension paper are allocated to the summary question, which makes it the single most important question in this paper.

However, many students labour under the misconception that they don't have to do much about their summary writing skills because they will somehow be able to scrape through with at least a few marks for Content. And thus, they fail to maximise their marks for the summary question, which leads to lower marks for Paper 2.

Summary Writing is actually a complex task, involving the use of 8 different skills. Students who are armed with these 8 skills will be able to write their summaries with more confidence, instead of groping in the dark and struggling desperately to include 8 main points in 80 words.

In our summary writing course, we break summary writing down into 8 basic skills so that our students will know exactly what they are doing when they are writing a summary.

These skills fall into 3 broad categories:

(i)  Maximising content marks

(ii) Cutting down the number of words

(iii) Style (This includes, fluency, using one's own words, changing sentence structures, and using a variety of sentence structures.)

We use specially-designed exercises to reinforce these skills, so by the end of the course, our students will be very clear about what they need to do to write a good summary.

We have a 2-Day Summary Writing Crash Course which teachers can book for their students (to be conducted at their schools' premises).
